The Newman Foodbank initiative was created by our school during the Covid 19 pandemic to support low-income families in the school community and make sure our young students were fed during the unprecedented times. We were able to establish this in partnership with Caritas Westminster and Wates Construction. Caritas supported us with food donations and more since the first lockdown in March 2020 when we first started with food boxes. Wates Construction Company donated the Foodbank Cabin, a fridge and freezer. They have also been a tremendous support. The food bank has gone from strength to strength and the support of our local Harlesden and Kensal Green community has been amazing.

Catholic Social Teaching ensures we have a commitment to support our local children and families who are in food poverty. Sadly, over 13 million people live below the poverty line in the UK and the need for foodbanks has increased due to the current cost of living crisis.

Our Foodbank runs weekly on Fridays and offers help to local families in crisis. We support over 50 vulnerable families from the school community. Many families have no recourse to public funds due to their immigration status, unemployment, loss of jobs, universal credit or low income and debt.

We are proud of our Student Volunteers and Staff Volunteers who turn up weekly and demonstrate 'Faith in Action' in the school community. 

Kensal Green Mutual Aid established a vegetable garden on the school grounds which enables us to provide seasonal fresh produce. We have also produced our own home made jam for distribution.

We are self funding and we very much appreciate the support and donations from the community.
