Accelerated Reader (AR) is a powerful tool for monitoring and managing independent reading practice, motivating your students to read for pleasure.  It was created by Renaissance Learning, Inc. There are two versions: a desktop version and a web-based version in Renaissance Place, the company's online potral.

Accelerated Reader has three functions:

• Assessment of a student's reading level
• Suggesting titles of books at that level
• Assessing whether a student has completed reading a book
